Flat Roofing
Flat roofing is one of the most common types of work we carry out, particularly on house extensions, garages and outbuildings across Birmingham. For new installations we fit one system only — Dryseal GRP from Hambleside Danelaw Building Products — because we believe it is the best flat roofing system on the market for residential properties.
Dryseal uses pre-cured, factory-manufactured GRP panels that are dry-fixed to the roof deck, with a cold-applied resin sealing the joints between panels. No naked flames, no hot works, no on-site lay-up in variable weather. Every installation carries a 20-year manufacturer warranty registered in Hambleside Danelaw’s name — not a contractor promise.
For repairs, we work on all existing flat roof types — felt, EPDM rubber, and traditional wet lay-up GRP — but any new flat roof we install is Dryseal.
Common reasons to call us:
- Existing flat roof is leaking or blistering
- Ponding water on the roof surface
- Felt or covering has cracked or split
- New extension or outbuilding requiring a roof covering
- Replacing an old felt or EPDM system with Dryseal GRP
Tiled & Slated Roofs
Whether you have a Victorian terrace with natural slate, a 1930s semi with concrete interlocking tiles, or a modern build with clay plain tiles, we handle the full range of pitched roof repairs and replacements across Birmingham and surrounding areas.
Our tiling work covers single-tile replacements, ridge tile repointing and re-bedding, hip and valley repairs, and complete roof strip and re-tiles. We’re experienced with clay tiles, concrete tiles, natural Welsh and Spanish slate, and modern synthetic slate systems.
For full re-roofs, we strip back to the timbers, inspect and replace any damaged battens and felt underlay, and tile using quality materials that match the character of your property. All ridge tiles are mechanically fixed as well as bedded for long-term security.
Signs your tiled roof needs attention:
- Missing, slipped or cracked tiles
- Ridge tiles that are loose or have gaps in the mortar
- Damp patches on ceilings below the roof
- Moss or lichen build-up causing tile lifting
- Age — most felt underlay and tile beds last 30–50 years
Guttering & Fascias
Guttering and fascia work often gets overlooked until something goes visibly wrong, but failing gutters and rotting fascias can cause serious damp problems if left unaddressed. We supply and fit UPVC guttering, fascias, soffits and bargeboards across Birmingham and the surrounding areas.
We work with all the standard gutter profiles — half-round, square-line and ogee — and stock a wide range of colours including white, black, anthracite grey and rosewood to match your property. All work is guaranteed and fitted to fall correctly from the outset.
In addition to full replacements, we also carry out repairs: resealing leaking gutter joints, replacing cracked sections, clearing blockages and refitting dropped gutter brackets. Sometimes a repair is all that’s needed and we’ll always tell you honestly which applies.
Signs your guttering needs attention:
- Water overflowing down the side of the house
- Visible damp patches on external walls
- Gutters that are sagging or pulling away from the fascia
- Fascia boards that are cracking, flaking paint or showing rot
Chimney & Leadwork
Chimney problems are among the most common causes of roof leaks in older Birmingham properties, yet they’re frequently misdiagnosed or patched over rather than properly repaired. We deal with the full range of chimney and leadwork issues, from basic pointing to complete stack removal.
Lead flashing is the metal seal between your chimney stack and the roof covering. Over time it can lift, crack or separate from the mortar joint, allowing water to track down into the property. We replace and re-dress lead flashings using traditional methods that are built to last.
Chimney pointing and flaunching (the cement cap around the chimney pots) deteriorate over time through frost and weathering. Failed pointing allows water into the brickwork itself, which causes much more serious structural damage if left. We repoint and re-flaunch using appropriate lime-based mortars on older properties.
Chimney issues we regularly deal with:
- Failed or lifted lead flashing
- Crumbling chimney pointing
- Cracked or broken flaunching
- Loose or displaced chimney pots
- Chimney stack removal and decommissioning
- Fitting chimney cowls to prevent water ingress and downdraught
